I gave the keynote address to the Beeby Colloquium in Wellington, New Zealand on 25 November 2020 entitled “New Zealand Perspectives on International Law”. This gave me an opportunity to talk about the New Zealand perspective of international law. What is it that is distinctly Kiwi in terms of our take on international law? Are there any identifiable characteristics of New Zealand international lawyers? Why is a New Zealand approach valuable to international law? This matters because I am New Zealand’s candidate for election to the International Law Commission for the term 2023-2027 and if I am elected, I will take a New Zealand perspective with me into the International Law Commission.
